This article from MediaPost Publications is well worth the read. It speaks to the notion that many of us boomers have about aging, namely that we will age gracefully, with few if any ailments, and then vanish quietly into the night. No dementia, stroke, diabetes, or any other maladies that tend to afflict the aged for us.
Of note is that the article is a media and marketing focus. Good marketers try their best to understand the realities of their target markets. The psychology, the desires, outlook etc. of their target is all important if they are going to be successful in selling a particular product or service. According to this article, we boomers have an irrational view of our quality of life as we age.
What exactly this means in terms of how marketers handle boomers remains to be seen. But read the article yourself and then put yourself in the shoes of a marketing manager. How would you approach people who think they will live comfortably until they die, knowing full well they are probably wrong?
